Attendees at Sunset’s event enjoyed tasty eats from local farmers and food trucks including: Beet Box Cafe, Divine Living, Hawaii SEED, Hawai’i’s Special, Mohala Farm, Kai’s Monster Threads, Lani Love Gluten-Free Breads, Monster Pop, Sandy’s Sandwiches, Shaka Ono Hawaiʻi, The Galley,Uncles North Shore Gourmet Ice Cream Sandwiches, Waihuena Farm.
Kainalu Elementary families enjoyed mint chimichurri served on grilled eggplant prepared on site and a buffet of homemade dishes made with locally sourced produced from family, school gardens and community farmers.
Both family nights included KHF program informational booths and community partners who presented earth friendly activities like reusable bag making, composting tips, healthy locally sourced ʻĀINA snack tastings, naturally flavored water stations, school garden tours, and seed planting. In the spirit of reducing waste both schools encouraged families to bring their reusable bottles and mess kits!
The Sunset Beach event was topped off with a screening of “Family Ingredients” featuring host Chef Ed Kenney of TOWN Restaurant along with Chef Alan Wong, and the Kainalu event highlighted student musicians.
Mahalo to the many ‘ĀINA parent and community volunteers who worked hard to plan these events and provide delicious locally sourced food, and fun and educational activities.
